Visual Arts 10: General
Visual Arts 10: Honours (VAG 10) 4 credits
Art 10 is a foundation course for Grade 10 students. Students will have the opportunity to begin or to continue developing their skills in the following areas: drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture and design.
Honours 10: This course is designed for grade 10 students who wish to develop their skills in Art at an accelerated level. The course will parallel Art 10 with an addition of extra projects and expectations. A minimum of 6 hours per week outside of class time is required. A minimum average of 75% must be maintained in order to remain in Honours Art 10.
Visual Arts 10: Ceramics & Sculpture (VAC 10) 4 credits
Prerequisite: Art 9 or VAG 10
The objective of this course is to provide technical skills and theory in the basic process of three-dimensional media design. Media explored will be soapstone, wire, plaster, wood and clay.
Art Foundations 11 (AF11) 4 credits
Prerequisite: none
This course is designed for the grade 11 student who has not enrolled in an art class since grade 9. It offers a broad range of opportunities for creating and responding to basic visual arts concepts. It will provide a program of study in both 2-D and 3-D art forms such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking and design.
There are no prerequisites for this course. Students with previous art experience are advised to take Studio Art Classes.
Art Foundations 12 (AF12) 4 credits
Prerequisite: none
This course is designed for the grade 12 student who has not enrolled in an art class since grade 9.
This course offers the same range of opportunities for creating and responding to visual arts as Art Foundations 11. 2-D and 3-D art forms such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking and design will be explored.
There are no prerequisites for this course. Students with previous art experience are advised to take Studio Art Classes.
Studio Art 11: Drawing & Painting (SADP 11) 4 credits
Prerequisite: Art Foundations 11 or Art 9 or Art 10
This course will explore a wide range or media – pencil, pastel, charcoal, acrylic, ink and watercolour. Subject matter will include architecture, portraiture, landscape, and illustration.
Studio Art 11 Honours: Drawing & Painting (SADP 11)
Prerequisite: VAG 10 /10H 4 credits
This course is designed for students who will be taking Advanced Placement Art in grade 12. Twelve projects in the Breadth category of the AP Art 12 Portfolio will be completed during the semester, as well as 2 projects in the summer. This course is for highly motivated students. A minimum of ten hours of work per week outside of class time is required.
A minimum average of 75% must be maintained in order to remain in this course.
Studio Art 11: Ceramics & Sculpture (SACS 11) 4 credits
Prerequisite: Art 9 or Visual Arts 10 or Visual Arts 10 Ceramics & Sculpture.
This course continues to provide technical skills and theory of three-dimensional media and design. Three-dimensional media such as soapstone, wire, plaster, formed paper and clay will be used.
Studio Art 11: Printimaking & Graphic Design (SAPG 11) 4 credits
Prerequisite: Art Foundations 11, Art 9 or 10, or Studio Art Drawing & Painting 11
Are you a creative individual with a flair for design? Do you like to design things like t-shirts, logos, and CD covers? Are you interested in pursuing a career in commercial art or graphic design? Then Printmaking and Graphics is for you. The course explores how to use various artistic techniques in advertising, packaging, and mass communication. Printmaking techniques include screen printing, etching and lino print.
Studio Art 12: Drawing & Painting (SADP 12) 4 credits
Prerequisite: Any Art 11 course
This course is designed for students who want to continue developing their skills and knowledge in the areas of drawing and painting. The projects completed in this course are designed to become part of an art portfolio.
Studio Art 12: Ceramics & Sculpture (SACS 12) 4 credits
Prerequisite: Studio Art 11: Ceramics & Sculpture
This is an advanced course in three-dimensional media. It consists of a more in depth exploration of the methods and materials examined in Ceramics & Sculpture 11.
Studio Art 12: Printimaking & Graphic Design (SAPG 12) 4 credits
Prerequisite: Any Art 11 course
This course is designed for those students who want to continue developing their skills and knowledge in the areas of printmaking and graphic design. The projects completed in this course are designed to become an integral part of an art portfolio.
AP 2-D Design Portfolio (A2DP 12) 4 credits
Prerequisite: A portfolio of past work must be presented to the teacher for evaluation before being admitted into the program.
The student is offered the stimulating challenge of a college-level course. A personal portfolio is prepared during the year and submitted to The College Board in May of the student's graduating year. This course is designed for highly motivated students. It requires a minimum of 12 hours of work outside of class time per week.
The College Board will provide a comprehensive analysis of the student's work.
Visual Arts: Media Arts 11 (VAMT 11) 4 credits
This course is concerned with developing skills in the areas of black and white photography, film production, editing, special effects and sound effects design. Students will learn the visual and technical aspects of black and white 35 mm photography and video.
Students will gain artistic and technical skills with both the 35 mm camera, darkroom, video camera and editing deck. Students must have access to a 35 mm camera. Students will be producing silent films, documentaries and short films showcasing their skills.
Visual Arts: Media Arts 12 (VAMT 12) 4 credits
This course will build on the knowledge of Media Arts 11 and concentrate of film production, digital photography and manipulation of digital media. Students will be studying green screening, layering images, special effects and particle engines. Students will be producing films of various kinds and lengths. Students will become proficient in using Imovie and FXlab pro.
