August 2025

Welcome Back Yale Lions!

We are thrilled to welcome our students back to Yale for the first day of school on Tuesday September 2nd. The energy and excitement of a new school year are already building, and we can’t wait to see our hallways filled with our wonderful students.

To help ensure a smooth and successful start, we’ve included a few important items for your attention. We also encourage families to regularly visit both the Yale Secondary and Abbotsford School District websites for the latest updates and information throughout the year. We’re looking forward to an incredible year ahead full of growth, achievement, and meaningful connections. Most of all, we’re excited to reconnect with our students and their families as we begin another year together.

Stan Wiebe

Principal

Tuesday September 2nd is the first day of school:

The first day of school is a half-day for students (8:05 – 10:50). Students will attend all four of their classes. Block order is BADC beginning with block B at 8:05 and dismissed for the day at 10:50 but we invite all students to join us for a welcome back BBQ at the front of the school.

When do I get my timetable?

Student timetables will be available on the MyEd Student Portal beginning Friday, Aug 22nd. Access to the student portal is not available until this date. Your password will be the same one which you used previously. If students require a password reset for their MyEd account, please email: yalerecords@abbyschools.ca using your abbyschools email account. Parents wanting a password reset must email from the email we have in MyEd. Instructions on how to access your timetable are on the Yale website under “Students - Student Portal Instructions. Hard copies of timetables will not be handed out. Students must go onto the MyEd Student Portal to find and print their schedule. The first day of school block order, Tuesday September 2nd is BADC.

Grade 9/New Student Orientation:

Grade 9 & new students are invited to a LINK Orientation on Thursday August 28th from 9-12. This day is for Gr 9 and new students only! Students will receive a school tour, their course schedule, meet their grade 11 mentors, and have a chance to have some fun while getting first day nerves out of the way!

School Supply List:

Yale Secondary does not offer a supplies list like Middle or Elementary schools. Students are asked to come to school with a binder, paper and pens.  As students meet their teachers for the first time, they will be told if they need anything special in the way of supplies for that class.

School Cash On-line:

Please log into your school cash online account and sign all the permission forms that are attached to your account. (These will be available the end of August and you will get a notification email that they are available) All students must have these forms signed by a parent/guardian.

Lockers:

Students will receive an email the first week of school about locker selection and will be able to select their locker online.  Once they have chosen a locker they CAN NOT change it. Instructions will be included in the email on how to chose your locker.

Attendance and Lates:

A reliable indicator of student success is consistent attendance at school and being on time for class. First period begins at 8:10 am. When students arrive late, it is disruptive to the learning environment, their peers, and they miss out on activities that have already begun. This year we want to focus on decreasing the number of students who arrive late in the morning, and we need parental help. Help us by ensuring that your child arrives on time to school. We also ask that if there will be a known absence ensure that we are notified of the absence or late using the district’s SafeArrival system with a phone call 1-844-487-3701 or using the App. If your child needs to leave school early for any reason,  please send a note or email to their teacher and enter the absence in the SafeArrival app or call 1-844-487-3701.

Photo Day:

Photo day is Tuesday September 9th. Information regarding opportunities to purchase a photo package will be emailed home to families. Photo re-take day is October 2nd.

What if I want to make a course change request?

We have done our best to accommodate first choice electives for all students, but when that was not possible, we have used alternates or substitutions. It is possible that you did not receive all the courses you asked for due to timetable conflicts and constraints. Please look over your timetable to ensure that you have a full schedule in the regular school day for both semesters.

Grade 11 and 12 students: Please review your timetable carefully. Course changes will be made to ensure you meet graduation requirements, or if you are missing a course in your schedule. Changes will not be made based on teacher preference. Changes in elective courses will be made as space permits. Every attempt will be made to balance the most difficult of your courses over the two semesters.

Grade 12 ONLY: Counsellors will be available on a first come-first serve basis on Tuesday August 26 from 10:00 a.m. to noon. and 1:00p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Grade 11 ONLY: Counsellors will be available on a first come-first serve basis on Wednesday August 27th  from noon to 3:00 p.m.

Grade 10 & International students: Counsellors will be available on a first come, first served basis on Thursday August 28th from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Grade 9: Course change requests will be considered starting AFTER school on Thursday September 4th. NO changes will be made before this date. Students must attend the classes on their timetable until an official change has been made.

Timetable Balancing:

We are still in the process of balancing Grades 9-12 timetables to meet class size mandates. Therefore, any timetable viewed before September 2nd are subject to change. Please make sure you re-check your schedule on September 2nd for any changes.

Who is my counsellor?
