Reaching the Summit

If one were to read the Latin phrase below the Yale Secondary coat of arms, one would read “ad summum” which literally means: “To the Summit”

Seventy-six student-athletes from the Yale Hockey Academy will be training at the Summit Centre on Townline Rd for the 2018-19 season. As part of an innovative approach to education, these students will practice daily on the ice, train in their exclusive weight room, and take blended-learning classes in one of the three newly-renovated state-of-the-art classrooms at Summit Centre.  Alongside academy coordinator Billy Wilms, staff from Yale Secondary will be collaborating and delivering an approach to learning that will be a coveted model for other academy programs to follow.  A “Franchise” project will provide students with an opportunity to apply concepts learned in Math, Science, Socials, English, French, and Arts & Design to a real-world scenario of creating a junior hockey franchise to a community in Canada that does not possess one.  The Yale Hockey Academy student-athletes will be nurtured in an environment that will foster curiosity, creativity, and multi-disciplinary thinking that will demonstrate empathy, grit, character, and a growth-mindset that transcends from the rink to the classrooms and ultimately to the real-world.
